The focus of the 63rd European Competition was on the topic of violence in everyday life.
— University project + Poster Competition win
The European Competition, initiated by the European Movement Germany, is the oldest student competition in Germany aimed at promoting political education in Europe. Around 80,000 students participate annually by working on various topics within the framework of the respective European Year. Everyone must adopt a European perspective and address themes encompassing societal, economic, political, and cultural aspects.
Our university chose to focus on a specific aspect of this topic: violence against women, especially those that happen at home. Violence can happen in many ways, like hurting someone physically, sexually, or mentally. It was important for us to raise awareness of this issue.
To effectively communicate the message, we developed a poster series with a striking design. We used dominant fonts and provocative photos to quickly capture the attention of viewers and encourage them to reflect on the topic. Our posters were not only meant to inform, but also to make people feel something and get them to take action.
The posters have a dark look that is chosen to make people feel strong emotions. Each element, from the color scheme to the imagery, is decided to create a captivating and thought-provoking experience. The impact is intensified by bold and striking fonts, which draw the viewer's attention and enhance the overall mood of the piece. These Posters create a sense of mystery, excitement, or introspection, these posters are designed to leave a lasting impression on those who look at them.
It was something new for me to participate in a competition. There were many interesting moments that I really enjoyed. You got to know new people and got an insight behind the scenes. I learned that it's important to believe in yourself and that there are always people who love your work and think it's awesome. This project showed me that our message reached people.
My experience with the European competition was eye-opening. I discovered that creativity can be a powerful tool in addressing important social issues. I was impressed by the different ways and ideas the people shared. Each contribution demonstrated how art and design can raise awareness and drive change. Engaging with other creative individuals allowed me to learn new things and gain fresh perspectives. This experience inspired me to focus my work as a designer on socially relevant issues and find creative solutions that help our community.
